Unit Designations
Engine - Any vehicle with a minimum of a 1,000 GPM pump and a maximum of 1,000 gallons of water. This includes telesqurts up to 65 feet, snozzles, and squrts. These vehicles are required to carry ALS medical equipment.
Squad - An Engine equipped with vehicle extrication tools, ALS medical equipment, saws and RIT equipment. Squads are to be approved by the SOC Chief.
Tender - Any vehicle with a minimum of a 1,000 GPM pump and over 1,000 gallons of water. This vehicle must be equipped with tanker equipment such as dump valves and drop tanks.
Rescue - Heavy-Rescue Apparatus. These vehicles are required to carry ALS medical equipment.
Mini - Light-Rescue Apparatus
Forestry - Forest/Brush fire response unit. These vehicles must be 4x4, and shall have a maximum of a 1,000 GPM pump and no more than 1,000 gallons of water.
Utility - Standard Pick-up/SUV. Used as a run around or support vehicle.
Tower - Any aerial apparatus (Excluding snorkels) equipped with a bucket. These units are not required to have pumps or water tanks, but are required to carry BLS medical equipment. Bronto Skylifts are included in this category.
Snorkel - Articulating aerial device. These units are not required to have pumps or water tanks, but are required to carry BLS medical equipment.
Truck - Any aerial apparatus greater than 65 feet in length; including telesqurts. These units are not required to have pumps or water tanks, but are required to have BLS medical equipment.
Hazmat - Hazardous-Materials response unit with BLS capabilities.
Medic - ALS Transport Ambulance. All ambulances will be ALS unless a granted otherwise on a case-by-case basis by EMS Coordinator James.
ALS - This is the designation for a paramedic fly-car unit.
Reserve: Reserve units are city-wide trucks that are utilized when frontline apparatus go down for maintenance. All reserve pieces are denoted by "200" series. For example, a reserve truck company at Station 1 will be known as Reserve Truck 201 (RT201).
